Joe Cernuto, Director
Dr. Joe Cernuto is Assistant Professor of Music at Millersville University, where he directs the Marching Marauders, conducts the Concert Band, and teaches courses in the department in music and music education.
Before his doctoral studies, Cernuto was the director of bands at Sequoyah Public Schools in Claremore, Oklahoma. While at Sequoyah, Dr. Cernuto taught marching band, high school concert band, jazz band, beginning band, and middle school bands, and his bands and students consistently earned superiors in district and state contests. He also served as director of bands at Rogers State University in Claremore, Oklahoma, where he reestablished the music program after a 15 year absence, and served as director of bands at West Rowan High School in Mt. Ulla, North Carolina. Cernuto is an experienced and in demand adjudicator, drill writer, and music arranger.
Dr. Cernuto earned his Doctor of Musical Arts in Wind Conducting from the University of Iowa and Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music in Music Education from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. His major teachers include Mark Heidel, Kevin Kastens, David Waybright, Matt Sexton, Joyce Davis, Russell Robinson, Tim Brophy, and Charles Hoffer. Dr. Cernuto’s professional affiliations include the College Band Director’s National Association, the National Band Association, Pennsylvania Music Educator’s Association, the National Association for Music Education and Kappa Kappa Psi.
Dr. Cernuto and his wife Megan have three daughters – Quinn, Nora and Avery.
Daniel Stauffer, Assistant Director
Dan Stauffer is from Lancaster, PA where he was appointed the director of the Marauder Marching Band at Millersville University in the fall of 2017. He is also the director of bands for Columbia Borough High School teaching two concert bands, marching band, jazz ensemble, and several elective courses. As a performer, Dan is an active freelance trumpet player in the central Pennsylvania and Philadelphia regions. He has had the opportunity to study and perform at two summer music festivals at The Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada. Dan spent two seasons marching with the Crossmen in 2006 and 2007, helping them make the transition to San Antonio his second year. Since 2015, he taught the trumpet section of Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps based in Camden, New Jersey. Along with his drum corps experience, he has taught numerous marching bands around central Pennsylvania since 2007. Dan earned his B.S. in Music Education from Millersville University, and is currently pursuing an M.M. in Wind Conducting from Messiah College.
